easter events

since today was general conference for our church, we had "easter sunday" last week. the weekend was a great mix of my favorite holiday and one of my favorite weekends, easter and conference. it was an amazing uplifting weekend. i'm so grateful for the savior, for his life, his ministry, and for his ultimate sacrifice for us. i love celebrating his life and resurrection, especially as we look forward to the time we will be reunited with addison.

love this picture!

if you look close, you can see addi's cute face on my necklace in this picture:

viral shedding.

that's why i'm about to crawl in bed with my three-year-old. will has a fever and I think, (naturally) "can't sleep with him. he will be viral shedding (verb) all night." who thinks like that? crazy me for one. now i'm gonna go try to sleep in the same bed with a... donkey? that's the only thing I can think of that may kick you in the face repeatedly all night. If you were trying to sleep by it.

conditioned response

around scarlet's birthday, she learned to associate the camera with bright lights. the conditioned response shown here manifests itself prior to taking a single picture. i hope it doesn't last too long! love those piggies!

after five years...

-i still miss my baby. every. day.
-every now and then it still hits me hard out of nowhere.
-the missing brings me to tears occasionally, but the daily tears are long gone.
-in my mind, she is a five year old with big brown eyes.
-at least once a week i look at asher and scarlet and wish she were here.
-her chair is the most noticeably empty at church.
-i cringe every time someone fails to acknowledge her as one of my children.
-i smile when someone speaks her name or asks about her or lets me ramble on about her.
-i love the visual reminder sophia is of what she would be like at this age and what she might be interested in.
-i have come to accept that will is the only person who still shares my grief.
-a piece of my heart is missing.
-i feel homesick for her sometimes. (like now)
-i know this is how it will always be, and that is okay.
-i have come to peace with most of the details that used to haunt me.
-she is usually not the first thing on my mind each morning, but i think of her often each day.
-i know i will have her again.
-i thank god for the savior who made that possible.
-i am five years closer to seeing her again :)

happy first birthday scarlet!

scarlet turned one on february 11th. in an attempt to spread out the girl's parties, we had her party on valentines day, very fitting for our little sweetheart.

love her face in this one:

the stroller from grandma kathleen was a big hit.

that flash is just TOO bright!

happy birthday to addi!

addi would have been FIVE this year. so crazy to think of that. overall we had a good day and were glad for friends and family who celebrated with us. i made her cupcakes and balloons bright colors this year... no baby-ish pink stuff for our big 5 year old!

the great pink eye epidemic of 2010

not sure i want to remember this, but it was so impressive i thought i'd go ahead and document. asher started preschool this month and i think he brought this home on day 3. in case you are wondering, he was kind enough to share with the rest of us.
SO DISGUSTING, GLAD IT's OVER!

christmas day 2009

christmas was VERY exciting at our house this year. santa brought a ride-on train for asher and a baby for scarlet.

i just want to cover this cute face in kisses:

the biggest hit of the day, which was also FREE!

SO excited!

there's nothing like a rousing game of candyland on christmas morning.

chtistmas eve '09

i LOVE christmas eve. the nativity is always a little wild, but the baby jesus was ADODRABLE chewing on this book, and those angels KNOW how beautiful they are!

cemetery candles are my favorite part of christmas eve.

temple square

the obligatory trip to see the lights at temple square. it was FREEZING! we pretty much just ran through, snapped a couple of shots, and ran back to the car. beautiful but painfully cold.

look who's crawling!

this chubby little girl had a really hard time getting herself off the ground to crawl. but she is making up for lost time by getting into EVERYTHING lately.
oh i love that face!

midyear las vegas

my previous resident shannon and i had a poster presentation at our midyear clinical pharmacy meeting this year. since will and i were in classes all week, my parents were kind enough to come along to watch the little munchkins during the day. we did some fun things in the afternoons and evenings and the animals at treasure island were a big hit. my favorite part of the trip was visiting my friend al and her cute family. (of course i have no pictures of that)

christmas card

my amazing brother-in-law jake made this christmas card for us. he did something similar last year and now he's kind of stuck for life because i LOVE these little cartoons. it makes me so happy to see my family the way they are in my mind. (although a little less cartoon-y:)
and the picture turned out perfect too. we got to bonnie's literally 5 minutes before the sun went down and she worked her magic like usual.

doin' something with wheat

i came downstairs one morning to find this. i was dumb enough to ask, "asher, what are you DOING!?" to which he replied, "i'm doin' something with wheat mommy."

no kidding son.

more halloween

trick-or-treat was a little more productive this year. asher at least wore his costume, but still refused to say "trick or treat". he was the most grouchy kid out there collecting candy in a penguin suit. funny boy.

first snowman of the season!

i got a picture message at work today and could not believe my eyes! it wasn't even snowing when i went in this morning!

halloween party

my mom had a halloween party for the kiddo's last weekend. asher kept saying he wanted to be spiderman but when it was time to put his costume on, he absolutely refused! luckily we had a couple of back-up costumes on hand (thanks dayna!). they both looked so cute.
